Eddie Murphy Revives His Bill Cosby Impression During First Stand-Up Set in 28 Years

While accepting the Mark Twain Prize for American Humor on Sunday, the elusive legend Eddie Murphy took the opportunity to deliver his first bit of stand-up in nearly 30 years. Eddie's (sadly brief) return to the medium he helped redefine is striking news on its own, but the former Saturday Night Live star didn't stop there, choosing instead to explore comedic territory he previously regarded as patently unfunny just months ago: Bill Cosby.

"Bill has one of these," Murphy told the immediately uproarious audience at the Kennedy Center, referencing Cosby's own Twain Prize. "Did you all make him give it back?" Murphy then broke into his infamous Cosby impression, insisting that he would "like to talk to some of the people who feel like I should give back some of my fucking trophies."

The Washington Post reports that Murphy's Cosby impression also took issue with Hannibal Buress, a talented comedian in his own right often credited with bringing Cosby's troubling history back into the spotlight: "If I ever see or meet this Hannibal Buress in person, I am going to try and kill this man!"
