Keegan-Michael Key and Jordan Peele Have 'Good' Friendship Despite Being Busy
"Whenever we have an opportunity to see each other, we do."
Despite the fact that Keegan-Michael Key and Jordan Peele have seemingly drifted apart in recent years, Key says that the two have a “good” friendship.
Key recently spoke with People about how the duo who previously worked closely together on their sketch show Key & Peele maintain their friendship. "Whenever we have an opportunity to see each other, we do,” said Key. Whenever we have an opportunity.”
"I certainly enjoy spending time with him, so when my travels take me to Los Angeles, he's usually one of the first calls that I make,” Key continued. “I land, and I go, 'Hey buddy, we're in town,' and often we get to have dinner.”
Key dived a bit deeper into how their relationship stays on good terms no matter how far they drift apart. "Our relationship is like a good friend's relationship, where you pick up where you left off, or the little things that you shared in the past, you just go right back into it again," added Key. "I look forward to seeing him in 2025."
Last September, Key reflected on what it was like working with Peele in his early years. “We lived together for a few months and would write and talk about comedy — who we liked and why we liked them and how that worked in the architecture of what we were trying to build comedically,” he said. Key also revealed that, “we don’t see each other that often anymore, which is, to me, a tragedy.”
Key might have to wait to see Peele for a little while longer since he’s hard at work on his next movie. Last year, he spoke on the Conan O’Brien Needs a Friend podcast about his fourth directorial effort that was previously scheduled to drop last Christmas, but was pulled from the calendar because of the Hollywood strikes.
“This has been…obviously, it’s been an interesting year because the writer’s strike had had me in a state of listening, and that’s where I need to be,” Peele said.
Peele also teased that the film could be his best work yet. “I do feel like my next project is clear to me, and I’m psyched that I have another film that, you know, could be my favorite movie if I make it right," he said.
Key himself recently appeared in Choice Hotels’ latest advertising campaign.
