Stephen A. Smith Agrees With President Trump About Epstein List
“I think we’ll be just fine with not knowing whether there’s really a client list.”
Stephen A Smith is following in the (recent) footsteps of Donald Trump by saying he doesn’t care about Jeffrey Epstein’s alleged list of top secret clients.
Smith voiced his thoughts about the alleged Epstein list during an appearance on NewsNation. The possibility of a secret list has lately been in the news because Trump and his supporters, including Attorney General Pam Bondi and FBI head Kash Patel, had previously trumpeted its existence and promised its release.
Bondi told Fox News earlier this year that the list was "sitting on my desk right now."
However, earlier this month, the Department of Justice (led by Bondi) and the FBI jointly proclaimed that there is "no incriminating 'client list.'" Trump himself released a lengthy Truth Social post dismissing the idea. That sparked major backlash from segments of Trump's MAGA movement — including within the government itself, with FBI Deputy Director Dan Bongino reportedly "out of control furious" about the official denial.
Smith, for his part, appeared to agree with Trump — or at least, the Trump of July 2025 (as opposed to the Trump of 2024, who promised to declassify Epstein's files): none of this is a big deal.
“It’s really surprising that this matters,” Smith admitted. “I think there’s a list.”
The sports personality continued, explaining what he thinks about the people who are upset with the President, who Epstein previously called his “closest friend for 10 years,” for not releasing the list. [Trump, for his part, called Epstein a "terrific guy" back in 2002 and said, "It is even said that he likes beautiful women as much as I do, and many of them are on the younger side."]
“I could give a damn about the Epstein client list because it has no effect on me whatsoever,” said Smith. “I have a life and I don’t understand, for the life of me, why it matters this much.”
“With all the stuff going on in this country, will all the power that you possess…that’s why you’re upset with Trump?” Smith added. “I don’t blame Trump for one bit to be like, ‘Really, that’s what matters to you?'”
Smith reiterated that, in his mind, the list doesn't matter to large numbers of people.
“I do know this in the grand scheme of things: it ain’t going to affect the lives of over 200 to 300 million Americans,” he explained. “I think we’ll be just fine with not knowing whether there’s really a client list.”
On July 12, Trump shocked his supporters by releasing a lengthy message on social media dismissing the importance of Epstein’s list.
“For years, it’s Epstein, over and over again,” Trump — who'd been accused of being on the list by Elon Musk — posted on Truth Social. “Why are we giving publicity to Files written by Obama, Crooked Hillary, Comey, Brennan, and the Losers and Criminals of the Biden administration.”
"We have a PERFECT Administration, THE TALK OF THE WORLD, and 'selfish people' are trying to hurt it, all over a guy who never dies, Jeffrey Epstein," Trump continued.
Trump’s message, as mentioned, followed the Justice Department and the FBI concluding that they didn’t have evidence of Epstein’s list.
At a White House meeting on July 8, Trump seemed surprised when a reporter asked him about Epstein.
“Are you still talking about Jeffrey Epstein? This creep? That is unbelievable… It just seems like a desecration,” he said.
Jeffrey Epstein was arrested in 2019 and charged by federal authorities with having "sexually exploited and abused dozens of underage girls by enticing them to engage in sex acts with him in exchange for money." He died by suicide while awaiting trial.
