Tyrese Reveals His Jewelry Is Fake Mid-Interview: ‘Don’t Love Me Because of No F*cking Diamond’
He says he bought his bracelet off Amazon for $23, using it to teach a lesson on keeping it real.
The bracelet on Tyrese’s wrist is fake, in case you were wondering.
The singer sat down with Power 105.1 The Breakfast Club and had an emotional conversation about being real — discussing the impact of Baby Boy, being outsold by other artists, and performing on Masked Singer. With tears running down his eyes, he admitted the jewelry that he wore to the interview was fake.
“If it all ends for me tomorrow, I never sold you on fake. None of the jewelry that’s on my arm is real,” he said as he unclamped a bracelet on his wrist.
“Dont love me because of no f*cking diamond,” he continued. “This bracelet right here looks real as a motherf*cker. This shit was $23 on Amazon. While Charlamagne laughed in the background, Tyrese had a point he was trying to make with this reveal.
“It don’t look fake right?” he said. “If you out here getting fake vagina over your fake jewelry, reality is reality.”
Chance the Rapper reposted a clip from the video on X, showing support for Tyrese by quoting a line from the video: “When you do things from the heart, it affects hearts. That’s what beautiful pain is.”
Elsewhere in the video, Tyrese initially tried to insinuate that the jewelry was expensive. “I don’t lose no sleep over trying to win the popularity contest with all this jewelry that I’m going to leave on a nightstand for a housekeeper to say ‘I don’t know,’” he said, then suggesting that his earrings were worth $250,000.
While some of Tyrese’s new interview was funny, a lot of it was serious — focusing on mental health and coping with grief.
When Tyrese was asked about processing the grief that comes with losing people (like his mother), the singer revealed that he takes it one day at a time.
“I’m doing the best I can with every 24 hours I get,” he said. “There is no square footage I coil ever live in, there is no rims, no jewelry, and no car, there is no net worth, there is no press release, there is no co-star there, there is no collaboration in the world that could ever replace my mama.”
Tyrese also voiced his wish for people to check up on men after traumatic events.
“When divorces happen, women aren’t the only ones that are devastated,” he said. “When a miscarriage happens, women are not the only ones that you should be checking on. When you can’t put food on the table because your career goes up and then it goes down, stop skipping over the man and just checking on the woman.”
