Virginia Woman Arrested in Connection With Netflix Star's Death
Sara Burack was struck and killed in an alleged hit-and-run incident earlier this week.
A Virginia woman has been indicted in connection with the alleged hit-and-run death of actor Sara Burack.
Southampton Town police said in a statement on Friday (June 20) that 32-year-old Amanda Kempton was charged with leaving the scene of a motor vehicle accident where Burack’s death occurred. She’s facing seven years in prison, and alcohol is not being considered a factor in the case.
Kempton, who is a marine biologist, pleaded not guilty and put up collateral in lieu of $100,000 bail. Her lawyer claimed that she thought she’d hit a traffic cone.
After Kempton allegedly struck Burack, she left the scene and went to the home of a friend, according to her attorney. When she got there, she discovered Burack’s large, pink suitcase lodged under her vehicle.
Burack was the star of the Netflix show Million Dollar Beach House. Before that, she worked for luxury real estate firm Nest Seekers International for more than a decade. She was 40 years old.
On Thursday, Southampton Town police received a call about a woman lying on Montauk Highway in Hampton Bays, an area on Long Island in New York. Authorities found her “unconscious with serious injuries, from apparently being struck by a vehicle that fled the scene.”
Burack was brought to Stony Brook University Hospital, where she was later pronounced dead.
