NFL Fans Are Freaking Out Over Odell Beckham Trade Rumors
Could OBJ really be heading to a new team?
New York Giants star receiver Odell Beckham Jr. reportedly won't suit up for his squad until he has a new contract. Beckham, who is set to earn $8.46 million under a fifth-year team option, is hoping to earn much more—perhaps even as much as $20 million per year.
“Odell Beckham is not going to set foot on the field without a new contract agreed to, whether the Giants or whether anyone else," NFL Network Insider Ian Rapoport said Monday morning.
Given Beckham's contract situation and off-the-field issues—he's currently facing a $15 million assault lawsuit—some have speculated the Giants may look to send Beckham to a new team. Adding fuel to that fire: Giants owner John Mara said "nobody's untouchable" over the weekend.
Mara said "we're certainly not shopping him," and it seems highly unlikely that New York would be receptive to offers, given Beckham's value to the team.
Still, the rumors are out there. Fans are already speculating about Beckham's future and potential trade destinations.
The Giants currently hold Beckham under contract for the 2018 season and could exercise the franchise tag on him in 2019 and 2020.
