Gilbert Arenas' Fiancee Surprises Him With an Engagement Ring: ‘Got Me Feeling Like a Baddie’
The couple became officially engaged in Paris, France last month.
Gilbert Arenas knows what it’s like to love and be loved in return based on this sweet gesture from his fiancee.
The 42-year-old former NBA player proposed to his girlfriend, 34-year-old Melli Monaco, late last month at the Eiffel Tower in Paris, France, according to Essence.
“The Eiffel Tower is Where it happened, She said nothing 🤷🏾♂️😂,” Arenas wrote at the time on his Instagram with Monaco showing off her hefty ring.
“i guess i was so nervous, i asked and answered 💥yes 💥for her 🥴🥴🥴 so im technically engaged to myself at the moment 😬 @mellimonaco still waiting 🙏🏿,” he added.
It turns out that “No Chill Gil” wouldn’t stay engaged to himself for much longer, considering Monaco returned the favor at a nightclub on Monday night.
As seen in a video shared to his Instagram account, the couple were seen sitting in a section with friends when suddenly bottle girls arrived with a sign reading, “Men wear engagement rings too.”
Arenas, visibly perplexed, looks to his right and sees Monaco holding an engagement ring box. After a moment to take in his situation, he hilariously extends his hand out to his already-fiancée and lets her put a ring on it.
“@mellimonaco Surprised me with an engagement ring 🤯😏😏 Got me feeling like a #Baddie 🤷🏾♂️ City Boys they're giving us engagement rings now 💯😂,” Arenas captioned the video.
According to Essence, the couple met during one of Monaco’s live streams last year where Arenas decided to shoot his shot. With the help of fans in the comments section, he was able to amplify his message and the rest is history.
Arenas was formerly engaged to Basketball Wives star Laura Govan, whom he dated beginning in 2002 before breaking up in 2014. Although they never made it down the aisle, the former couple share four children together.
