Pacman Jones Says He Cheated NFL Drugs Tests by ‘Never’ Using His Own Urine
The former NFL star defended cannabis use and pushed back on strict testing policies in a new interview.
Adam “Pacman” Jones has admitted that he never used his own urine for drug tests when he played for the NFL.
The 41-year-old former star cornerback talked about cheating the league’s substance abuse policy on a new episode of Deion Sanders’ We Got Time Today show on Tubi.
Around the 55-minute mark, Jones was asked by co-host Rocsi Diaz if he would be “a different person” today if the NFL was more lenient on cannabis at the time he was playing.
“Well, I ain’t never stopped smoking,” Jones said. “I’ve always smoked. When I played, after I played, now. I am a hot advocate of THC.
“I cheated the program, I was really good. People don’t know how smart I am,” he continued. “But, I could say it now, I don’t play no more, but like, I’ve never used my piss for a piss test, not one time.”
When Sanders tried to explain that such deception couldn’t happen today, Jones pushed back, saying, “It can happen if you know what you’re doing.”
Diaz was nearly able to get Jones to share how he evaded detection with the use of cups, but Sanders, who doesn’t smoke or drink, shut down the conversation.
“I’m saying, it’s what, 41 states that’s legal with marijuana? They’re giving guys opiates, pain pills, muscle relaxers. You’re telling me that a guy that’s smoking THC that is helping him perform more? Or are you telling me it’s helping his body?" Sanders said. "I’ve never seen anybody say, ‘Yeah, weed helped me perform.’ It might relax you. It might take away a little pain. But it don’t help you perform.
“I don’t think no sport should be testing for THC, and I’m a big advocate of it. I’ve talked to the NFL, I’ve had meetings with [Roger] Goodell a couple of times,” he concluded.
As explained by USA Today, Jones, the sixth overall pick in the 2005 NFL Draft, played for four teams, including the Tennessee Titans and Cincinnati Bengals, before his last NFL season in 2018. He had a history of league suspensions, including missing the entire 2007 season for off-the-field incidents, which led to increased drug testing.
The NFL has since relaxed its marijuana policy, significantly raising the threshold for a positive test from 35 nanograms per milliliter in 2018 to 350 nanograms today. Testing positive once led to suspensions and fines, but cheating the test could have resulted in even harsher penalties.
