Randy Moss Returns to 'NFL Countdown' in Tears Post-Cancer Diagnosis
Months after receiving cancer surgery between his pancreas and liver, the Hall of Famer was moved by a surprise heartfelt video from NFL legends.
Randy Moss made an emotional return to ESPN’s Sunday NFL Countdown.
The 47-year-old former NFL star and now ESPN sports analyst made his return to the program after revealing his cancer diagnosis in December. Moss said he underwent surgery around Thanksgiving to remove a mass between his pancreas and liver.
During Sunday’s broadcast ahead of the Super Bowl LIX, Moss’ fellow broadcasters surprised him with a heartfelt video tribute featuring messages from football legends, including Bill Belichick and his former teammate Tom Brady.
"Hey Randy, wanted [you] to know we're behind you as you continue your fight. Welcome back to TV and Countdown," said Belichick, 72.
"Welcome back Randy," Brady, 47, said. "I'm sure all the guys on the set have missed you, but we've all missed you as well. You've been a fixture on that show for a long time and you were a fixture on the field.
"For as great as you were on the field in showing everybody the strength and resilience of how you performed over the course of your Hall of Fame career, you've impressed and inspired us more than anything you've done off the field, man,” he added.
Other notable cameos in the video included Kevin Garnett, Jerry Rice, Justin Jefferson, Steve Smith Sr., Malik Nabers, Cameron Heyward, and Micah Parsons.
Moss was visibly moved by the gesture from his colleagues.
“Y'all already know it's the big crybaby here. Hey y'all, I couldn't do it alone. And I really thank y'all,” Moss said through tears. “It's been hard, but I got a lot of love and a lot of people believing in me. So I'm happy to be here … God bless you all, man. God is good, man.”
