Dodgers Fan Blows Up Hand With Firework While Celebrating World Series
His team might have gained a world title—but he lost a few fingers.
The Los Angeles Dodgers walked away with their eighth title on Wednesday, but one of the team's most enthusiastic fans walked away with fewer fingers.
In a horrifying video captured on video and circulating on social media, an unidentified Dodgers fan wearing a Clayton Kershaw jersey went to light a firework when it suddenly went off in his hand.
In the resulting explosion, a fireball rose up around him, and the man stumbled away in shock. One of his hands was covered in blood and looked several digits shorter than before the accident.
Thankfully, some bystanders saw the incident and came to his aide and called 911. TMZ reports that the 25-year-old in the clip was conscious when the Los Angeles Fire Department showed up at the scene, but he had suffered bilateral hand wounds.
While the injuries were described as debilitating, they were not life-threatening. He had tourniquets placed on both of his arms and was taken to a nearby hospital.
The Dodgers beat the New York Yankees in a comeback victory on Wednesday. After the victory, outfielder Mookie Betts said the only way to define the 2024 Dodgers was "crazy."
"One thing is that we just kept going," Dodgers manager Dave Roberts said, per ESPN. "Even in the postseason, I don't think anyone had us picked. I don't think they had us picked to get out of the first series. For us to go out there and fight and scratch and claw and win 11 games in October, that's a credit to our guys."
