Joel Embiid Calls Whoever Leaked Tyrese Maxey Meeting 'a Real Piece of Sh*t'
Embiid was reportedly confronted by Tyrese Maxey for frequently being late.
Joel Embiid did not have kind words for those responsible for leaking the details of a Philadelphia 76ers team meeting in which Tyrese Maxey allegedly called him out for frequently being late.
Per reporter Gina Mizell via BlueSky, Embiid was not happy about the details of the meeting being made public. He also downplayed the severity of Maxey confronting him over his alleged lateness, suggesting it was a quick chat between teammates and coaches.
"Whenever leaked that is a real piece of shit," he said. "But even then, we talked about a lot of things. I don't want to get into the details, but that whole thing probably took 30 seconds.
NBA reporter Tony Jones added that Embiid took accountability for his tardiness and welcomed the criticism. "I need to be better," he said. "I need to be perfect, I need to be on point, which I'm going to do."
As reported by Sham Charania for ESPN, the 76ers held a team meeting on Monday, November 18 following the 106-89 loss to the Miami Heat. Kyle Lowry called the meeting because it was their fourth loss in a row, and during the conversation Maxey reportedly confronted Embiid on his tendency to arrive to "everything" late.
While the two are close friends, an anonymous source added that Embiid's tardiness was "the elephant in the room." Embiid, meanwhile, acknowledged the issue but reportedly expressed confusion about what the team's recent tactics on the court. He played on the game on Monday, but only turned up for warmups after being absent most of the day due to an unspecified illness.
The 76ers are currently at the bottom of the NBA standings, with 12 losses and just two wins this season.
