Michael Jordan Is Joining NBC’s NBA Coverage as a ‘Special Contributor'
The legendary NBA star is joining the crew for the return of the 'NBA on NBC.'
Michael Jordan is coming back to the NBA. Well, sort of. Jordan will be joining the NBA on NBC crew next season as a special contributor.
As reported by Variety, Jordan will serve as a special contributor for the NBC Sports broadcast when it kicks off in October. NBC's parent company, NBCUniversal, revealed the news during a presentation with advertisers at Radio City Music Hall on Monday, May 12. While the details of what his "special contributor" role will entail are under wraps for now, NBC said it will reveal more on how Jordan fits into its NBA coverage soon.
"I am so excited to see the NBA back on NBC," said Jordan. "The NBA on NBC was a meaningful part of my career, and I’m excited about being a special contributor to the project. I’m looking forward to seeing you all when the NBA on NBC launches this October." NBC Sports President Rick Cordella added, "Michael's legacy both on and off the court speaks for itself. We're incredibly proud to have him join our coverage."
The NBA and WNBA reached an 11-year agreement with NBC to bring coverage of the leagues back to NBC and its streaming platform Peacock last year. Peacock will exclusively stream national Monday night games, while Peacock and NBC will cover regional Tuesday doubleheaders.
Other confirmed contributors to NBA on NBC include Jamal Crawford and Reggie Miller as game analysts, Carmelo Anthony as a studio analyst, and Noah Eagle and Mike Tirico as play-by-play commentators. NBC previously had NBA broadcast rights from 1990 through 2002. It will also launch Sunday Night Basketball in January, following the NBA on NBC relaunch in October.
