Robert Griffin III Reacts to ESPN Firing Him With Classic ‘Friday’ Clip: ‘How Do You Get Fired on Your Day Off?'
The former ESPN host appears to habe a sense of humor about the unfortunate news.
Robert Griffin III seems to be taking his sudden firing from ESPN in stride.
As reported by The Athletic, Griffin was let go on Thursday, August 15 alongside Sunday NFL Countdown host Samantha Ponder. Griffin, who had tw years left on his deal, confirmed the news with a scene from the F. Gary Gray-directed comedy featuring Ice Cube's character Craig Jones getting berated by John Witherspoon's Willie Jones for getting canned.
"How the hell you gone get fired on your day off?" Willie Jones asks his son as he sits on the toilet. "I don't know," he replies.
The decision to fire both Griffin and Ponder comes ahead of the end of ESPN's fiscal year in September, indicating they were let go due to financial reasons. They both made over seven figures with ESPN and still had time left on their contracts. They were told they were fired on Thursday morning. It's not immediately clear who will replace either of them, especially with the first Sunday NFL Countdown episode just 24 days away.
