Jey Uso Gets Real Ahead of the Biggest Match of His Career at WrestleMania 41
Jey Uso opens up about his biggest match yet at WrestleMania 41, going solo against Gunther, transforming his persona, and making his gaming debut in Clash of Clans.
The Jey Uso that we’ve seen the last few weeks is not the Jey Uso that you’re used to. He hasn’t been yeeting, there haven’t been any bright pink shutter shades, he’s been dressed in all black, and he’s on arguably the greatest promo run of his entire life.
Tomorrow Uso will open up night 1 of WrestleMania 41 against Gunther for the World Heavyweight Championship. Without a doubt, the biggest match in the future Hall of Famer’s career against the hardest opponent of his career thus far.
“It’s going to take everything I’ve got,” Uso said. “I’ve lost to him three or four times. He’s got my number. But I don’t know what’s going to happen Saturday. It’s do or die. I’ve got to come at him different—I’ve got to bring the heart.”
On top of fighting for a world title, Uso is a part of a brand new WWE Partnership with Clash of Clans. Uso is officially in the popular mobile game as “The Thrower” along with other WWE Superstars Cody Rhodes, Rhea Rhipley, Bianca Belair, Rey Mysterio, Kane, Becky Lynch, and the Undertaker.

First, we have to start with Clash of Clans—that’s what we’re here for after all. How does it feel to be a part of this partnership with WWE and Clash of Clans? Not just a partnership, but being fully immersed and actually in the game?
It’s fire. When they told me I was in Clash of Clans, I didn’t believe it. Then they showed me a picture and, man—it’s fire. WWE crossing over with Clash of Clans? Never in a million years did I think I’d be in the game too. I’m yeeting on Clash of Clans—yeet!
I heard Cody Rhodes is in the top 10% of Clash players worldwide. What do you think about that? How often are you playing, can you believe he finds the time for that?
Man, that’s trash! They lying! Who cares about all that? My character’s been used over 250 million times—yeet! Let’s talk about that.
You said before it’s been a while since you’ve played, but what advice would you give to players who use your character in the game?
Man, are there still hogs in the game? I don’t know—but if they’re still in there or there’s someone else that can jump over walls, get that character. When you’re starting out, you want ones that jump over weak walls. And hey—upgrade your walls! Loose ends!
Let’s switch gears to wrestling. The Jey Uso we’ve seen these past few weeks isn’t the same one we’ve seen over the past year. You haven’t been doing the “yeet” much or wearing the shutter shades. What mindset are you in right now? What’s different about this version of Jey heading into Saturday night?
Man, this Jey just has a mission—to get somebody. It’s not about cool shirts, colors, or commercials. That stuff is cool, but I had to tune it all out. When someone messes with your family, it hits different. That’s where my focus is.
Gunther’s been a hurdle for you. What’s it going to take for you to finally beat him?
It’s going to take everything I’ve got. I’ve lost to him three or four times. He’s got my number. But I don’t know what’s going to happen Saturday. It’s do or die. I’ve got to come at him different—I’ve got to bring the heart.
Would you say this is the biggest match of your career?
For sure. If I don’t win Saturday, I feel like my career is cut.
You spent much of your career as part of one of the greatest tag teams of all time. I saw a video of you and Jimmy doing the haka on TikTok the other day. But how different is it being out there on your own?
At first it was a little different, adjusting to being solo. But now? Man, I’m enjoying the ride. The ups, the downs—finding myself. I love how the fans got with me. Saturday, I’m going to try to bring it home for the WWE Universe.
Sneaker Shopping just dropped Monday. You said Air Force 1s are the best shoe to hit a superkick in. You wearing them Saturday?
Fresh out the box. Icy white-on-whites. Low tops. That’s it.
You wore the CLOT Dunks you copped on Sneaker Shopping at Raw a couple weeks back. What went into that decision?
Man, that was my first time rocking all black again, and the CLOTs were just sitting there. I thought—black on black? Fire. They matched perfectly. Got ’em just in time.
You’ve walked out with Travis Scott before, and he’s become a major part of the WWE family. What do you think about his involvement—and that shot he gave Cody at Elimination Chamber?
I don’t know what they’re cooking over there, but I like it. It’s those twists that keep the show fresh. Travis Scott walking out with John Cena and The Rock? I don’t know what’s going on—but I’m glad I’m a fan. Even being in the shows, I still want to watch. I’m excited to see where it goes.
Besides your match, what are you most excited about this weekend?
Honestly, seeing my family win. Roman in the main event again—10th or 11th time. So proud of him. My cousin Jacob is making his first WrestleMania appearance. I’m happy for everyone. Plus—we’re in Vegas.
Complex recently ranked the top 25 vintage wrestling tees. What’s your all-time favorite?
Easy. All yellow Razor Ramon shirt, big face on the front. Black and yellow. Classic.
If you had to team up with one celebrity in a tag match against John Cena and Travis Scott, who would it be?
J. Cole. I know he can ball—he’s a real athlete. And lowkey like 6’3”, 6’4”. Got some height. Plus, I mess with J. Cole heavy.
Favorite J. Cole song?
“In the Morning.” You know what I’m saying? That one. Missy Elliott too—yeet.
So last one, I was at SmackDown when the Bloodline reunited. You threw your glasses into the crowd—I actually caught them but I gave them to a kid sitting near me. He fainted, was crying, said it was the best moment of his life. What does it mean to have that kind of impact?
Man, it humbles me. Makes my heart happy. You don’t know you have that kind of impact until it happens. I’m grateful I can give those feelings to kids. Whether it’s a touch, a “what’s up,” or just a moment—yeet. I appreciate those memories. And thank you for doing that.
