Angel Reese Appears to Take Another Swipe at Candace Parker on Social Media
'Clout is one hell of a drug,' Reese sniped.
Angel Reese added fuel to her ongoing back-and-forth with Chicago Sky legend Candace Parker after posting on X (formerly Twitter) on Tuesday, July 29, “clout is one helluva DRUG. like it really gets to a point.”
The message went up hours after Reese recorded her 11th straight double-double and shortly after a promo clip from Parker’s Post Moves podcast began circulating.
In the teaser, Parker—joined by Fever All-Star Aliyah Boston—pushes back on accusations of bias while discussing player tiers: “I in no way, shape or form, am a hater. … What player are you taking Angel Reese over? Of those that I just listed,” she said, as Boston added, “Guess we’ll wait for their response.” Reese’s late-night post appeared timed to that clip.
Reese also briefly reposted a fan comment suggesting Parker would be “mad” about a younger star who “comes in breaks my records, gets promotion/brand deals I couldn’t get, and then has the audacity to steal my vet,” a reference to Reese surpassing Parker’s marks and her visible bond with Lisa Leslie, who mentored Parker as a Sparks rookie.
When the full Post Moves episode dropped on July 30, Parker clarified that her mention of Reese came from a tier-ranking exercise she did earlier this month.
Given tiers from S (highest) to D (lowest) and a pool that included Reese, Cameron Brink, Paige Bueckers, Caitlin Clark, Napheesa Collier, Sabrina Ionescu, Arike Ogunbowale, Kelsey Plum, Breanna Stewart, and A’ja Wilson, Parker placed Reese in the C tier.
She also emphasized that critique isn’t hate: “We have to come to a place in women’s basketball where we can critique without being a hater. I in no way, shape, or form am a hater.”
Parker also acknowledged Reese’s rapid rise: “Do I think she could be up there? Yes. Do I think she could be at ‘S’ eventually in her career, and her evolution and what she’s added in her game from her rookie season to now? Absolutely. Is she there now? No.”
