Another WNBA Game Halted By Neon Green NSFW Object Thrown At Players
“It’s super disrespectful,” Chicago Sky center Elizabeth Williams said.
The WNBA Chicago Sky’s home game against the Golden State Valkyries at Wintrust Arena was briefly paused on Friday, August 1, after a fan threw a neon green sex toy onto the court.
According to the Chicago Tribune, the stoppage came with 7:42 left in the third quarter as the Sky were pushing the ball in transition before officials whistled play dead. The object appeared to be tossed from the upper deck behind the north baseline.
Following Golden State’s 73–66 win in Chicago, Sky center Elizabeth Williams addressed the interruption, calling it “super disrespectful” and adding, “I don’t really get the point of it. It’s really immature. Whoever is doing it needs to grow up.”
Wintrust Arena has a clear bag policy allowing only clear bags or non-clear bags smaller than 10-by-6-by-2 inches, with exceptions for diaper bags and medical equipment. It was not immediately clear how the object was brought into the building. The Sky did not issue an immediate comment while security worked to identify the person responsible.
It’s the second such delay this week involving a WNBA game featuring the Valkyries. On Tuesday, July 29, a similar neon green object was thrown during the Atlanta Dream–Golden State matchup, prompting a late-game stoppage with 1:01 remaining. Both incidents involved the same shape and color of item.
In the Dream–Valkyries game, the TV broadcast initially noted that “something” had flown onto the court before a close-up revealed what the item was, prompting an announcer to say, “Oh my gosh. OK, OK. Inappropriate,” followed by, “Get ’em outta here, whoever it is.”
The sequence occurred near midcourt in front of the Golden State bench. Possession continued briefly before officials paused play to review the origin of the item. A uniformed officer and Atlanta Dream co-owner Renee Montgomery were seen near the object; the officer removed it using a towel.
After several minutes, play resumed, and Golden State closed out a 77–75 win behind a late Cecilia Zandalasini jumper.
