Memphis Tigers guard Sincere Parker was arrested Saturday, July 19, and charged with aggravated assault and vandalism after an alleged domestic violence incident involving his girlfriend, according to a police affidavit reviewed by The Commercial Appeal and obtained by Sports Illustrated.

Parker, 22, had transferred to Memphis from McNeese State earlier this off-season.

The affidavit describes a confrontation that began with an argument inside Parker’s Memphis apartment in May. The woman told investigators that Parker pushed her, struck her in the face, and then placed his hands around her neck, applying enough pressure to restrict her breathing. She said the assault left her with bruising and bleeding around her mouth. Property in the residence was also damaged, leading to the vandalism count.

The victim first reported the incident on June 12, telling officers she had left the apartment “fearful for her safety.” On July 15, she formally identified Sincere Parker from a photo lineup, resulting in his booking at the Shelby County Jail. Bail details and court dates have not been released as of this writing.

Memphis Athletics acknowledged Parker’s arrest in a brief statement but declined further comment, citing the ongoing investigation.

The program, led by coach Penny Hardaway, has experienced roster turnover; Parker was expected to compete for minutes in the Tigers’ backcourt after a productive year at McNeese, where he averaged 12.2 points and 2.5 rebounds while shooting 43.7 percent from the floor across 34 games.

The charges against Sincere Parker carry severe potential penalties in the state of Tennessee. According to state law, aggravated assault can be classified as either a Class C or D felony, depending on the severity, which can lead to several years in prison if a conviction is secured.

It is unclear if this is Sincere Parker's first arrest, or if he has an attorney representing him in the matter.
