Russell Wilson Eyeing NY For QB Renaissance: 'It Doesn't Get Any Bigger Than NYC'
The NFL quarterback is hoping that his latest move is his best move.
Russell Wilson is betting big on a New York reboot after three bumpy seasons that turned the once‑untouchable Super Bowl champ into meme material.
The 10‑time Pro Bowler signed a one‑year, $10.5 million deal with the Giants, and, in a new interview with Sports Illustrated, revealed that he immediately tapped into the city’s limitless main‑character energy.
Wilson insists he’s nowhere near washed: “Honestly, I feel like I’m 25 years old all over again…physically, I feel great. Mentally, I feel amazing in terms of its possible.”
He credits the “fast‑paced” vibe of NYC, a young roster, and familiar QB coach Shea Tierney for the spark. Carmelo Anthony co‑signed the move, telling him New York is "the perfect place for you to reestablish and have everybody realize who Russell Wilson really is."
Despite his recent setbacks, Wilson's résumé boasts nine Pro Bowls in his first ten years, a Lombardi Trophy, and career numbers that rival those of Drew Brees and Ben Roethlisberger.
Even last season—split between Denver and Pittsburgh—he was pacing for “25 touchdowns and eight interceptions.” To the haters dissecting airplane high‑knees and office privileges, Wilson shrugs: “It’s called a career…everything in life happens for a reason.”
At 36, he’s chasing five more seasons, buoyed by the belief he can still “throw the ball… 70 yards” and Houdini his way out of sacks. The past injuries? Learning curves. The $85 million in dead money Denver absorbed to replace him? Motivation. New York’s brutal 2025 schedule and first‑round rookie Jaxson Dart waiting in the wings? “Just believe. Why not?” he says to the outlet.
For a Giants franchise fresh off its worst record ever, Wilson’s relentless optimism might be exactly the soundtrack the team needs for its much-needed comeback.
“And people,” he said to SI, “it doesn’t get any bigger than New York City.”
