Drake Attempts to Debunk Drake Curse by Pointing to Raptors’ NBA Championship
Drake also went head and blamed the Toronto Maple Leafs loss on Justin Bieber.
Drake has finally addressed the dread "Drake curse" more comprehensively than he ever has in the past.
In a video for the sports betting platform Stake, Drake called the notion of the curse “funny.”
“I feel like I don’t play sports, so whether I pick the wrong team or not—if I could get out on the field and win for all your favorite teams, I would,” Drizzy said. “But no, the Drake curse is funny to me, honestly.”
As legend has it, if Drake publicly backs an athlete or team, disaster ensues
But to further debunk the idea of the curse, Drake pointed to the Toronto Raptors winning the NBA championship in 2019. He also reminded us of Kawhi Leonard’s game-winning buzzer-beater shot against the Philadelphia 76ers in Game 7 of the Eastern Conference Semifinals, which allowed the Raptors to advance to the Eastern Conference Finals.
“First of all, the Raptors won a championship, so nobody can ever talk to me about the Drake curse,” he added. “Toronto Raptors are NBA champions. If there was a Drake curse, Kawhi would have never hit that shot, we would never beat the Warriors. There is no Drake curse, but it’s funny, though. I am a flawed sports bettor—I will not deny that. That’s not my gift. So I’ll let everybody roll with it.”
Drake also talked about the curse as it relates to his sports betting. “I’m sure if you’re a Drake curse believer, there’ll be plenty more content in the future for you to confirm your theories, ‘cause for whatever reason, my slips do not cash out," he said. "But one day I’m gonna have a parlay that’s insane and everybody’s just gonna be like shhh, on quiet mode.”
Even though Drake says he doesn’t believe in the curse, he’s still used it to his advantage. In 2019, Drake wore 76ers shorts to a playoff game perhaps in an effort to jinx Philly.
Drake had more fun with the curse when the Toronto Maple Leafs were eliminated from the Stanley Cup Playoffs last week. Drake jokingly blamed noted Leafs fan Justin Bieber for the loss.
“Bieber curse…,” Drake wrote on his Instagram Story.
Bieber meanwhile, seemed to take the loss in stride.
"This year we made it farther than we have in so long and I'm happy about that," he wrote on social media. "I can be patient ‘cause I know this is the team to do it."
