Dwight Howard is grieving the death of his dog, who he has said was killed in a hit-and-run.

The ex-NBA player took to Instagram on Wednesday (June 25) to share that his Belgian Malinois, named Sunday, died on June 18 in Suwanee, Georgia, after a car allegedly hit her and didn’t stop.

"I’ve been trying to hold this in," Howard wrote alongside several photos and videos of his dog. "I really have but it’s killing me inside to get answers! I need answers and I won’t stop searching until I find out what happen to my beautiful Sunday.

"You were my peace. My protector. A reminder of everything beautiful and calm, just like those early Sunday mornings. You were joy. You were warmth. You were my girl. And your life was cut short too soon."

Howard ended the caption by asking for his fans’ help. "Please if anyone has any information regarding a Belgian Malinois that was hit by a car…please let me know," he wrote.

Howard is currently playing in the BIG3 league after 18 seasons with the NBA, ending his career with the Los Angeles Lakers in 2022.

His stint in the BIG3 has been entertaining so far, to say the least. Howard and Lance Stephenson were both ejected from the the 2025 season opener after a fight erupted during the contest between Miami and Los Angeles.

The altercation, which spilled into the media area behind the basket, marred what was a highly anticipated debut for both players in the 3-on-3 league on June 14. It all began when Stephenson appeared to elbow Howard in the chest, prompting Howard to push Stephenson’s raised fist away.

The two then exchanged shoves before grappling across the court and into media tables stationed behind the hoop. Officials quickly stepped in, but both Howard and Stephenson were tossed from the game. Stephenson’s Miami squad went on to edge out Los Angeles, 50-44.
