Germany's former goalkeeper Tim Wiese has finally completed one of the most surprising transfers of the summer.

After two years of speculation, the 34-year-old has completed his switch from football to professional wrestling after accepting a personal invitation for WWE champion-turned-executive Triple H to train full-time at the WWE Performance Centre in Orlando, Florida.

Wiese – who was a part of Germany's World Cup squad in 2006 – played for clubs including Werder Bremen and Hoffenheim but first prompted rumours of a career change after acting as a guest timekeeper during a WWE Live event in Germany.

Tim Wiese reinvented himself as a boybuilder during time away from football in 2014.

Speaking on the decision to sign Wiese to an extended trial at the Performance Centre, Triple H said:

Wiese becomes the second ex-professional goalkeeper to sign to WWE, following in the footsteps of former Football League favourite Stuart Tomlinson, who now wrestles as Hugo Knox on WWE NXT.
