Rick Pitino Blames the High-Priced Louisville Escort Scandal on a Low-Wage Graduate Assistant
Rick Pitino didn't take any accountability in questions on Mike & Mike In The Morning radio show.
The Louisville Cardinals are out of this year's NCAA tournament due to the self-imposed ban from the pending investigation of the shocking escort recruiting scandal news that broke in October 2015. During an interview in early January of this year, Louisville head coach Rick Pitino promised that he would never again mention the incident publicly after his rant that attempted to clear his name of any wrongdoing.
Two months later, but that promise didn't last too long. Pitino sounded off again on ESPN's Mike & Mike In The Morning Show saying that his recruiting program's infrastructure failed between the alleged timeframe of the years 2012 through 2014. Pitino claims that his program is set up to prevent criminal activity. Pitino seemingly sidestepped any accountability in the interview, and looked to maintain his innocence from having knowledge of the former graduate assistant Andre McGee, who he blamed for booking all the hooking that went on in the university's Billy Minardi Hall when his team's recruits came to visit campus.
Here's what Pitino had to say:
Andre McGee was fired from his then-new assistant coach job at University of Missouri-Kansas City, after the scandal made headlines last year. But Rick even made a snipe at Kentucky when discussing that he'd like to have a sit-down to figure out why McGee was doing this without his knowledge.
Pitino used to be the head coach at Kentucky for almost ten years, and even won a championship with them in 1996. To throw shade at a place where he found success may not be the best way to deter the blame away from himself. Also for the fact that he's throwing the book at a low-wage graduate assistant affording $10,000 worth of transactions for these high-priced escorts (with who's money??) is a bit much, no? He can't keep track of all the pimping on campus.
