Caitlin Clark Jokes That the WNBA Is ‘Sick’ After Fever Secure Commissioner’s Cup Title
Caitlin Clark’s unexpectedly snide comment had her teammates cracking up.
Caitlin Clark of the Indiana Fever is one of the most famous female basketball stars of all time. However, throughout this season in particular, she has been subjected to seemingly constant hard fouls and rage directed at her by fellow members of the WNBA. Many Fever fans have alleged that these actions by Clark’s opponents come from a place of jealousy of the 23-year-old’s talent.
Clark has become known for keeping her mouth closed rather than speaking out publicly about what she has experienced on the court. However, after the Fever were able to secure the Commissioner’s Cup title on Tuesday, July 1, Clark finally decided to clap back.
“Guys, I just know everybody in the league is sick!” she can be heard saying in the background of a recent video posted to Instagram Live by Fever forward Aliyah Boston.
Boston clapped her hands and laughed, replying, “They're p***ed."
The Fever were able to secure the win in an in-season tournament over the Minnesota Lynx without Clark, who was unable to play due to a recent groin injury. The final score was an impressive 74 to 59.
When the team made their way back to the locker room, they celebrated by putting on their freshly earned Commissioner’s Cup Champions hats and t-shirts and popping some champagne.
In another video, Clark could be heard commenting that the prize money for winning the Commissioner’s Cup, which is an impressive $500,000, is actually higher than what is awarded to the team that wins the WNBA Finals.
“It makes no sense. Someone tell Cathy to help us out,” she joked, referring to Cathy Engelbert, the WNBA commissioner.
Throughout this season, Clark has had to miss out on seven games due to injury. It is unclear whether she will play in the Fever’s next game, which is July 3 against the Las Vegas Aces.
