Angel Reese Announces She’s Out for the Season Due to Wrist Injury
The star player's rookie season is coming to a premature end after an injury sustained during a game against the Los Angeles Sparks.
Angel Reese's trailblazing rookie season for the Chicago Sky is coming to a premature end.
During a game against the Los Angeles Sparks on Friday (Sept. 7), Reese sustained a wrist injury. The prospect of her playing against the Dallas Wings on Sunday was up in the air until it was officially announced on Saturday night that she would be out for the remainder of the season.
Chicago Sky released a statement on X confirming the news.
Reese then released a statement of her own with a more optimistic look on the circumstances. "I never would have imagined the last bucket of my rookie season would be a 3 but maybe that was God saying give them a taste of what they will be seeing more of in Year 2," she wrote.
She also thanked fans for their condolences, acknowledging that some would "cut [their] wrist off" for her to be able to continue playing.
Reese's track record thus far has been nothing to scoff at. The 22-year-old is the first player in league history to score 20 or more rebounds in consecutive games, with her doing it for three games straight.
Fans won't have to wait that long to see Reese on the court again, as she announced at the end of her statement she's still planning on playing in Unrivaled, a 3v3 league co-founded by Napheesa Collier and Breanna Stewart. The league is intended to benefit WNBA players during the off-season with opportunities stateside rather than having to travel overseas.
