Ben Shelton Got Morgan Stanley to Give His Sister Time Off to Watch Him Play at Wimbledon
The tennis player pleaded with Morgan Stanley for his sister, Emma, to attend the tournament.
Tennis pro Ben Shelton successfully got his older sister, Emma, to support him during Wimbledon.
But getting his sister's support meant asking for her to take time off work, in this case, approaching international banking investment company Morgan Stanley. After defeating Italian tennis player Lorenzo Sonego on Monday (July 7), Shelton spoke during an on-court interview about reaching out to Morgan Stanley on his sister's behalf. Also in the stands cheering Shelton on was his girlfriend, Washington Spirit player Trinity Rodman.
"I've been playing well this week. It's not just been me here. I have a great team. My parents are here. My girlfriend's here. Also, my sister's here," Shelton said. "She's been here for every match that I've played [in] this tournament so far. She's been the lucky charm."
"But she has work back in the U.S., starting on Monday. She works for Morgan Stanley," Shelton added, to which the crowd booed. After hushing the crowd, Shelton asked for "some connects" for Emma to have "a couple extra days off."
The siblings also celebrated Emma's time off on Instagram, where a video showed Emma unpacking and jumping in victory before Shelton gave a "shoutout" to Morgan Stanley. Before his 7-5 win against Sonego, Shelton previously won 6-2, 6-3 and 7-6 in men's singles during this year's tournament.
