Serena Williams' Husband Alexis Ohanian Plays Off Being Mistaken for Umbrella Holder by Announcer at Paris Olympics
Ohanian playfully acknowledged his new "title" on Instagram.
Serena Williams' Personal Umbrella Holder, er, her husband, entrepreneur and investor Alexis Ohanian popped out at the Olympic Games Paris 2024 this weekend.
On Friday (July 26), during the opening ceremony, rain pelted down on the couple and their daughter, six-year-old Olympia, when English announcer, Laura Woods, mistook Ohanian as Williams' assistant.
"Those are the kind of levels you aspire to," Woods said. "To have an actual umbrella holder behind you."
But rather than Ohanian being offended by the blunder, he embraced it in an Instagram post, writing, "Olympia. Serena. Serena's Personal Umbrella Holder. 😂 Let the games begin! I'll be watching a lot of T&F to soak up @athlos inspiration. 🥇"
Ohanian's been called out of his name before, famously being dubbed a "groupie" by Drake on Her Loss song "Middle of the Ocean."
"Sidebar, Serena, your husband a groupie/He claim we don’t got a problem but/No, boo, it is, like you comin’ for sushi/We might pop up on ’em at will like Suzuki," rapped Drizzy, who was rumored to have briefly dated Williams in the 2010s.
Nearly two years before Ohanian got the last laugh via Kendrick Lamar, Ohanian seemingly responded to Drake on Twitter, writing, "The reason I stay winning is because I'm relentless about being the absolute best at whatever I do — including being the best groupie for my wife & daughter."
