Super Bowl Champion Linebacker's Cause of Death Released at 38
The former NFL player shared details of his health battles online.
The cause of death has been released for a 38-year-old Super Bowl-champion team linebacker.
Bryan Braman was part of the Philadelphia Eagles' team that won Super Bowl LII against the New England Patriots. According to CNN, he drew praise from fans after tackling another player without a helmet when he played for the Houston Texans.
His agent confirmed to CNN on July 17 that Braman died from a "very rare form of cancer."
“Bryan Braman was a warrior in every sense – on the field and in life – facing every battle with unshakable grit and heart,” Sean Stellato said to CNN Sports. “His passing leaves a void not just in football, but in the spirit of every underdog who ever dared to fight.”
A GoFundMe page provided additional details of his cancer fight.
"Bryan is home with his family after undergoing a Car-t cell reprogramming treatment program in Seattle. With the cancer that Bryan has, which is a VERY rare form of cancer, the Car-t treatment had the highest chance of success as the cells are reprogrammed to fight this cancer that is within Bryan," a January post on the GoFundMe page says.
"His cells did re-infuse themselves, and did in fact start reproducing within his bone marrow. At first the mass did start to shrink, but then the cancer started fighting back. At this point Bryan has had to start having chemo treatments that are designed for the treatment program Bryan is in."
In February, an update read, "Bryan is fighting for his life! Please help in any way possible."
Cancer.org explains: "In CAR T-cell therapies, T cells are taken from the patient's blood and are changed in the lab by adding a gene for a receptor (called a chimeric antigen receptor or CAR), which helps the T cells attach to a specific cancer cell antigen. The CAR T cells are then given back to the patient."
J.J. Watt, who played on the Texans wth Braman, wrote on X, "Rest in Peace brother. Gone far too soon."
