Rashee Rice has been sentenced to 30 days in jail and five years of probation for his role in a Dallas car crash.

News of his sentence was shared on Thursday (July 17) by ESPN’s Adam Schefter, more than a year after the Kansas City Chiefs wide receiver was allegedly involved in a hit-and-run.

According to police documents, Rice was driving a Lamborghini at 119 mph before causing a six-vehicle crash on the North Central Expressway. Authorities said SMU cornerback Teddy Knox was also involved in the May 30, 2024, incident. The college athlete was allegedly driving a Corvette at 116 mph before the chain-reaction crash that left at least seven people injured.

Rice and Knox allegedly fled the scene before officers arrived. The two were ultimately hit with one count of aggravated assault, one count of collision involving serious bodily injury and six counts of collision involving injury. Rice turned himself in to police 11 days after the crash and admitted to driving the Lamborghini. He apologized for actions in a subsequent Instagram post.

"Today I met with Dallas PD investigators regarding Saturday’s accident," he wrote. "I take full responsibility for my part in this matter and will continue to cooperate with the necessary authorities. I sincerely apologize to everyone impacted in Saturday’s accident."

On Thursday, the Dallas County District Attorney’s office announced Rice had pleaded guilty to collision involving serious bodily injury and racing on a highway causing bodily injury — both third-degree felony charges.

ESPN reports a Texas judge confirmed Rice can serve his 30-day jail sentence at any time during his probationary period. Before entering the plea, Rice agreed to pay $115,481.91 in restitution to the car-crash victims. That money will reportedly cover out-of-pocket medical expenses.

NFL spokesman Brian McCarthy told Schefter that the league is "closely monitoring all developments in the matter which remains under review." Sources said Rice’s sentencing is likely to result in a multi-game suspension.

Rice addressed his sentencing in a statement shared by the Dallas County DA’s office.

"Last March, I was involved in a high-speed accident in Dallas," the statement began. "There have been a lot of sleepless nights thinking about the damages that my actions caused, and I will continue working within my means to make sure that everyone impacted will be made whole. I urge everyone to mind the speed limit, drive safe and drive smart. Last and certainly not least, I am profoundly sorry for the physical damages to person and property. I fully apologize for the harm I caused to innocent drivers and their families."
