Sha’Carri Richardson: Video Appears to Show Sprinter Shoving Boyfriend Before Arrest
The Olympic sprinter was charged with fourth-degree assault after an altercation with Christian Coleman turned physical.
A newly surfaced video has shed more light on Sha’Carri Richardson’s domestic violence case.
The Olympic gold medalist was arrested last month for allegedly assaulting her boyfriend, Christian Coleman, at Seattle–Tacoma International Airport. On Thursday, TMZ Sports published security footage of the July 27 altercation in which Sha’Carri was seen repeatedly pushing and shoving Coleman in front of other travelers. Coleman, a track and field sprinter who began dating Richardson in early 2025, was apparently trying to walk away from his girlfriend before she grabbed his backpack and pushed into a column.
Police said the altercation continued to a nearby TSA checkpoint, where Richardson allegedly threw a pair of headphones at Coleman.
According Fox 4, Richardson told authorities that she and Coleman had gotten into a “heated” argument that never turned physical. The couple did not provide details on the tense exchange, and Coleman refused to press charges.
Per a police report: “Coleman did not want to participate any further in the investigation and declined to be a victim.”
After authorities reviewed the security footage, Richardson was arrested on a fourth-degree domestic violence offense. She was booked into the South Correctional Entity (SCORE) in Des Moines, Washington, and remained behind bars for about 18 hours.
Days after the assault, Coleman defended Sha’Carri to reporters, saying his girlfriend should’ve never been arrested.
“For me personally, I feel like it was a sucky situation all round,” Coleman said, per USA Today. “I don’t feel like she should have been arrested. I mean people have discussions and emotions and stuff like that. She has things that she needs to work on for herself, of course. So do I, so do you, so does everybody. But I’m the type of guy who’s in the business of extending grace, and mercy and love.”
He continued: “She’s a human being and a great person, and I feel like we’ve been able to be really good team-mates all year… We’re just two dominant personalities. To me, she’s the best female athlete in the world… She’s just had a lot of things going on, lot of emotions and forces going on inside of her that not only I can’t understand, but nobody can.”
Richardson has yet to publicly address her arrest.
