Serena Williams Gives Birth to Baby Girl
Serena Williams went into labor during the U.S. Open.
Serena Williams has given birth to a healthy baby girl! Both the baby and the mother are reportedly doing well.
The news comes from the New York Daily News via a tweet by WPBF-25 news producer Chris Shepherd who claims his information is from a source at the hospital.
According to TMZ, Williams went into labor on Friday, September 1. The 35-year-old was admitted to St. Mary’s Medical Center in Palm Beach, Florida on Wednesday and labor was induced Thursday night. Note that this means Williams’s baby will be born during the U.S. Open, which Serena has won six times. Talk about fate!
Serena’s baby daddy is her fiancée Alexis Ohanian, the co-founder of Reddit. The couple met in May 2015 and have been engaged since December of last year.
Serena accidentally announced her pregnancy via Snapchat back in April. This will be Serena’s first child, and Serena kept us in the dark for most of the pregnancy. She chose to be kept in the dark about the gender of her baby, but sister Venus sparked rumors that Serena was having a girl when Venus referred to the baby as “she” in a Eurosport interview in May. Serena cleared up the issue in an Instagram post, writing that “I did not grow up with brothers, only sisters and we all say ‘she’ more than ‘he.’” Now that we know Venus was right, it's on you whether you want to believe Serena or if you want to think she just didn't want to announce it yet. Regardless, she will be a very loved child.
