Dak Prescott Signs Historic $240 Million Deal Making Him Highest Paid Player in NFL History
Prescott is heading into his ninth NFL season with the Dallas Cowboys.
Dak Prescott has signed a new contract extension with the Dallas Cowboys, which makes him the highest-paid player in NFL history.
Per Adam Schefter, Prescott agreed to a four-year, $240 million contract extension with the Cowboys. The extension now puts Prescott at the top of the list of highest-paid NFL players and will have him in a Cowboys jersey through the 2028 season.
According to ESPN, Prescott's deal also includes a record guarantee of $231 million and a $80 million signing bonus. The previous record holder was Deshaun Watson, who signed a fully guaranteed deal with the Cleveland Browns in 2022 that was worth $230 million. The average annual of $60 million in Prescott's deal is also the highest in league history.
Prescott and the Cowboys were locked in negotiations over the weekend before the team's game against the Cleveland Browns in week 1 of the new season. He was in the final year of a four-year, $160 million deal that he signed in 2021 before signing the new extension. The deal also comes after the Cowboys made CeeDee Lamb the second-highest-paid wide receiver in the NFL and kept him through the 2028 season as well.
If all goes well, Prescott may end his career in Dallas as the franchise's all-time leader in several categories, including wins, passing yards, touchdown passes, and more. He may also help end the team's near 30-year Super Bowl drought. Their last Super Bowl title came in 1996 when they defeated Pittsburgh Steelers in Super Bowl XXX.
