Jayson Tatum and Jaylen Brown Appear to Ignore Steve Kerr Postgame Following Olympics Snubs
Jayson Tatum barely played for Team USA this past summer, while Jaylen Browm wasn't selected at all.
Jayson Tatum and Jaylen Brown appeared to snub Steve Kerr after Monday's game between the Boston Celtics and Golden State Warriors.
While Tatum was speaking to Steph Curry after the game, Kerr stood around awkwardly appearing to wait for the Celtics star to acknowledge him. Kerr eventually walked away. Jaylen Brown also walked by Kerr, but the two didn't acknowledge one another either.
The apparent snubs come after Tatum and Kerr were rumored to be at odds during the 2024 Summer Olympics when the Celtics star barely saw the floor during Team USA's quest for gold. As for Brown, he didn't make the team at all.
At the time, Tatum admitted that not playing much was not easy. "It was a lot. In the age of social media, you see everything,” Tatum said at the time. “You see all the tweets and the people on the podcasts and people on TV giving their opinion on whether they thought it was a good decision or it was an outrageous decision or whatever."
Tatum also explained that being benched in that way was an entirely new experience for him. "I wanted to contribute more, and I’ve never been in (this) situation," he added. "I started playing basketball at (age) 3 at the YMCA, and I’ve never not played, so it was different and it was challenging.”
While it's impossible to know exactly what was on either player's mind, or Kerr's for thast matter, people online were quick to read into the non-encounter.
Check out some reactions to the moment below.
The Celtics destroyed the Warriors 125-85 behind Tatum's 22 points, 9 rebounds, and 7 assists. It seems the lack of play in the Olympics has the 2024 NBA champion running on fumes all season, as he's averaging 27.5 points, 9.3 rebounds, and 5.4 assists, the last two categories being career highs.
