Dallas Cowboys wide receiver and return specialist KaVontae Turpin was arrested in Allen, Texas, for possession of marijuana under two ounces and unlawful carrying of a weapon, TMZ reports.

The arrest occurred over the weekend, and the 28-year-old was taken into custody by the Allen Police Department and booked in Collin County Jail. He was released on Sunday after posting a $1,500 bond. No official statement has been released by Turpin or his representatives regarding the arrest as of press time. The Cowboys have also yet to comment publicly on the arrest.

Turpin, a former TCU standout, received national attention after stellar performances in several professional leagues outside the NFL, including a breakout season with the USFL’s New Jersey Generals in 2022. His success there led to a contract with the Cowboys that same year.

Turpin has steadily increased his impact on the field since joining Dallas. He recently signed a three-year, $18 million extension in March after a 2023 season that saw him lead the NFL in kickoff return average (33.5 yards) and record touchdowns on both kickoff and punt returns, making him the only player in the league to do so last season.

Turpin also made noise as a receiver, notching career highs with 31 catches for 420 yards and two touchdowns, including a 64-yard score. Known for his explosiveness and versatility, Turpin became the first Dallas Cowboy to record a punt return, kickoff return, and receiving touchdown in a single season.
