Magic Johnson Responds to Anthony Edwards Saying Michael Jordan Was the Only Talented Player in the 90s
Johnson took a shot at Edwards' lack of NBA championships.
Magic Johnson responded to Anthony Edwards saying Michael Jordan was the only skilled player in the 90s, and the Laker legend didn't hold back.
"You know, I don't ever respond to a guy that's never won a championship," Johnson told Stephen A. Smith. "There's not nothing to really say. He didn't win a college championship, I don't even know if he won a high school championship."
In his original comments, Edwards said MJ was the only player of his era who was elite and proved his point by bringing up how excited people were over Kobe Bryant and his style of play.
"I didn't watch it back in the day so I can't speak on it," Edwards told The Wall Street Journal "They say it was tougher back then than it is now, but I don't think anybody had skill back then. [Michael Jordan] was the only one that really had skill, you know what I mean? So that's why when they saw Kobe [Bryant], they were like, 'Oh, my God.' But now everybody has skill."
Interestingly enough, Edwards also said he's in no rush to win an NBA title as, with the exception of Kobe, all the greats had to go through several losses to finally win one.
"I don't know too many guys who won a championship super young, besides Kobe," he said. "Other than him, everybody took years and years of losing to get there. I just want to keep taking the next step."
