Log Off: A History of NBA Twitter Fails

For NBA players, Twitter is a great way to reach out to their fans on a personal level. Uh, FOH: The social-networking tool has only provided more opportunity for boneheaded ballers to get into fuckery—the Carmelo Anthony and Kat Stacks controversy just being the latest example. While Twitter fails often lead to fines and PR disasters for the athletes, it

Charlie Villanueva

Date: 3/15/2009

Account: @cv31

Twitter fail: While with the Milwaukee Bucks, the forward was scolded by head coach Scott Skiles for tweeting from the locker room during halftime.
Complex says: One question: Who the fuck would wanna follow Charlie Villanueva?

Mark Cuban

Date: 3/29/2009

Account: @mcuban

Twitter fail: The Dallas Mavericks owner was fined $25,000 for criticizing officials after Dallas' 103-101 loss to the Nuggets.

Complex says: Like this logorrhoea-ridden motherfucker needed another podium. Hey Mark, when David Stern became one of your followers, it wasn't because he was interested in business advice.

J.R. Smith

Date: 8/4/2009

Account: @jr_swish

Twitter fail: J.R. Smith deleted his Twitter account after being suspected of gang affiliation for a Twitter update in which he replaced his "c"s with "k"s, a typical practice of Bloods.

Complex says: Kome on J.R., akting like you're in a gang just bekause you want to look kool will konstantly kause krazy kontroversy. Nah, we don

Michael Beasley

Date: 8/21/2009

Account: Inactive. Smart one, Mike.

Twitter fail: Michael Beasley posted a Twitpic of his new tattoo, with a substance that looked suspiciously like marijuana in the background. After denying the allegations that he was a pothead via Twitter, Beasley checked into a rehab center.

Complex says: If you had an epic-fail tattoo like Mr. "Super Cool Beas," you'd be sparking up a lot of kush, too.

Ron Artest

Date: 8/24/2009

Account: @96truwarierqb

Twitter fail: After a series of hilarious tweets, Ron Ron takes things to another level with this joke.

Complex says: Wait, is this Ron Artest's account or Black Mamba's?

Brandon Jennings

Date: 12/12/2009

Account: @bjennings3

Twitter fail: Brandon Jennings was fined $7,500 for posting a tweet after a game before speaking with the media, a violation of an NBA rule.

Complex says: Dude closed his Twitter account for a while after that. With the Joe Budden draft night convo and this weirdness, homie might want to stay off the computer.

Ray Allen

Date: 12/23/2009

Account: @ray_allen20 (new)

Twitter fail: An erotic tweet was posted on Ray Allen's Twitter page, causing him to change his handle and claim that his account was hacked.

Complex says: Whatever, "SugarRay": We know that was meant for wifey. But ummm, those directions seem a bit confusing. Pause.

Chris Bosh

Date: 4/30/2010

Account: @chrisbosh

Twitter fail: During the thick of the NBA playoffs, free agent Chris Bosh asked his followers which team he should sign with.

Complex says: Dude went from irrelevant to hated in record time.

Paul Pierce

Date: 5/18/2010

Account: @paulpierce34

Twitter fail: After Boston went up 2-0 against Orlando during last year's Eastern Conference Finals, a message was posted on Paul Pierce's Twitter stating, "Anybody got a BROOM?" Pierce later claimed that his account was hacked when the message was written. This claim was later confirmed by another journalist.

Complex says: Whether Pierce wrote the message or not, we still think Dwight Howard should have retweeted: "Anybody got a razor?" Seriously fam, clean that shit up—your face looks like an Etch-A-Sketch.

Mo Williams

Date: 6/23/2010

Account: @mogotti2

Twitter fail: After his name had been mentioned in trade rumors, Mo Williams took to his Twitter account to make this emotional plea to the Cavs.

Complex says: Anytime a grown man says he

Carmelo Anthony

Date: 8/29/2010

Account: @carmeloanthony

Twitter fail: Newlyweds Carmelo Anthony and LaLa Vasquez got into a Twitter fight with Kat Stacks after the industry groupie said one of her friends was with Carmelo in his hotel room. LaLa responded with a threat, but her hubby took it a step further by offering $5,000 to anyone who slapped Kat Stacks and taped the incident. Melo's Twitter account was later shut down and—surprise, surprise—he claimed it had been hacked into once he relaunched his account. Kat Stacks has reportedly filed charges.

Complex says: Famous dudes...haven't you learned by now? Avoid Kat Stacks at all costs. Seriously. Is it that hard?
