Kevin Durant When Asked About Suns Fans' Reaction to Rockets Trade: 'They Got What They Wanted'
"We can move on," KD says.
Kevin Durant, now a Houston Rocket, says he’s “glad” Phoenix Suns fans “got what they wanted.”
In an interview with Kay Adams mere moments after news of KD’s trade to the Rockets went public amid Fanatics Fest proceedings in New York, the two-time NBA champion confirmed that he “had an idea” that such reports were imminent, adding that the festival “deserved to have that moment.” Elaborating on the move, KD said he “most definitely” had a hand in it, with the Rockets organization at large getting praise as a “a team that values” him.
As KD sees it, the Rockets are coming off of a “great season,” though “time and work and effort and execution” will all be paramount in the months ahead. Deeper into the interview, Adams asked KD to address “heartbroken Suns fans,” resulting in him questioning whether any such heartbrokenness actually exists among the Phoenix fanbase.
“I just felt like, yeah, that means they wanted me to go,” KD said, as seen below. “It’s like, I’m glad they got what they wanted and I got what I wanted. So we can move on. Good luck to them going forward. I’ll always remember my time there but we on to something else.”
ESPN’s Shams Charania reported Sunday that KD’s trade to Houston will also see Jalen Green and Dillon Brooks heading to Phoenix. All told, the news has clearly proven to be a boost for the Rockets, with all eyes now on how the Ime Udoka-led team will enter the new season.
This year’s champs, meanwhile, are the Oklahoma City Thunder, who beat the Indiana Pacers in Game 7 on Sunday.
