Brittney Griner Exits Halftime Interview to Argue With Referees
She told the referees to be better.
Brittney Griner abruptly left a halftime interview to argue with referees in a recent heated moment captured on camera.
The incident took place at the Atlanta Dreams v. Dallas Wings game on Saturday (May 24) when Griner, who had a strong first half, was approached for a halftime interview with CBS Sports. While the reporter was asking her a question, Griner instead turned her attention to referees because she felt they weren’t giving her the right calls in the first two quarters.
The camera captured Griner arguing with referees and pointing to her arm, presumably to let them know about a foul call that was missed. The referees didn’t seem too bothered, and they kept walking. As they left, Griner yelled to them, “Be fucking better,” seemingly not worried about fines potentially coming her way.
According to Athlon Sports, Griner could potentially face a fine of $200 for unsportsmanlike conduct. Even though Griner’s comments didn’t happen during a live game, she could also be fined for breaking WNBA rules, which limit players from interacting with referees during halftime.
Though she had a rough night with the refs, Griner finished with a nice statline, walking away with 15 points, eight rebounds, and one assist. For the season, Griner is averaging 15 points and seven rebounds.
Griner was previously captured on camera at an Indiana Fever game on Thursday (May 22) criticizing a “trash” and “fucking wack call.”
