Luka Doncic Trade: Kevin Durant, Dirk Nowitzki, and More React

Luka Doncic will be traded to the Los Angeles Lakers, and the move is sending shockwaves rippling throughout the NBA.

The trade was so jaw-dropping that ESPN NBA Insider Shams Charania was believed to have been hacked when he announced it. But soon after last night's reveal, more details about the three-team swap between the Los Angeles Lakers, Dallas Mavericks, and Utah Jazz came to light.

The Lakers are receiving Doncic, Maxi Kleber, and Markieff Morris from the Mavs. Dallas is set to receive Anthony Davis, Max Christie, and a 2029 first-round pick from the Lakers. The Jazz will receive Jalen Hood-Schifino, a 2025 second-round pick from the Los Angeles Clippers, and a second-round pick from the Mavericks.

Mavericks general manager Nico Harrison explained his motivation for the trade that sent Doncic to the Lakers.

“I believe that defense wins championships,” he told ESPN. “I believe that getting an all-defensive center and an all-NBA player with a defensive mindset gives us a better chance. We’re built to win now and in the future.”

Harrison and the Mavs may buy, and believe, this explanation. But NBA players everywhere were more shocked than anything when they found out.

One of them was Kevin Durant, who seemingly found out mid-game and appeared surprised by the news.

After the game, Durant spoke with the press about the move, saying “It’s crazy … I would have never thought Luka Doncic would get traded at this age, mid-season.

“This gotta be the biggest trade I’ve seen since I’ve been in the league or since I’ve been watching the sport, this is insane,” KD added.

Devin Booker also chimed in, telling media that even the biggest players aren't safe on the trading block.

"It's a business," he said. "They're always having a conversation about you. Don't think that you're safe."

Players aren't the only ones talking about the trade. Lil Wayne hopped on X to share his unfiltered opinion at the huge move.

"Lawwwwwwd have mercy!!!! Kuz my Lakers r obviously merciless!!!! This sh!t bout to be krazy slime!! Laker Luka?!?! Wow," the rapper wrote.
