Matthew Golden Plans to Use NFL Signing Bonus to Get Grandma's House Back
His grandmother lost the property a few years ago.
Newly drafted Green Bay Packer Matthew Golden has revealed that he plans to use some of his signing bonus to buy back property previously owned by his grandmother.
In a Thursday (April 24) interview on Andy & Ari On3 after the NFL draft, Golden detailed what he planned to do with his money. “Definitely get my grandma a house, man,” he said. “We lost our property a couple of years ago. That’s somewhere I grew up when I was younger and it would be a blessing to get that back for my family.”
“I always told myself that I wanted to do that, and now I'm in a position to do it. So if it’s bound to happen, I’m gonna make it happen,” he added.
When asked whether he’d have to buy the property from an existing owner, Golden revealed that it’s currently on the market. “It’s literally for sale right now—I go back and look at it every time,” he explained. “I actually had a camp last week for some kids back at home and I drove down the road.”
“It’s actually on the back street of the school I went to,” continued Green. “My entire family lives on that road.”
Golden’s feel-good story is one of the brightest moments so far of this year’s NFL draft. Another story that’s been gaining traction, but isn’t nearly as positive, is the fact that Colorado quarterback Shedeur Sanders didn’t get drafted in the first round.
Sanders had a prolific season last year and finished with an all-time FBS record with a 71% career completion rate—but the star quarterback and social media celebrity known for his confidence and distinct style was overlooked. Sanders gave his thoughts about what happened.
"We all didn't expect this, of course," he said. "But I feel like with God, anything's possible, everything's possible. I don't feel like this happened for no reason. All this is of course fuel to the fire. We all know this shouldn't have happened. But we understand, we're on to bigger and better things. Tomorrow's the day. We're going to be happy regardless."
