Reggie Miller Recalls His 1993 Fight With Michael Jordan: 'He Scratched My Eye'
He walked the 'All The Smoke' hosts through the altercation that happened 30 years ago.
Reggie Miller has finally explained what caused the fight between him and Michael Jordan at a Chicago Bulls and Indiana Pacers game in 1993.
Miller appeared on the All The Smoke podcast where he broke down the situation that led to the two NBA legends tussling briefly on the court.
“I didn’t want him to chokehold me. We get into this [scuffle] and he scrapes my eye," revealed Miller while reacting to the footage live (around the 1:03:20 mark).
“He scratched the crap out of me, but look I’m holding and controlling him,” continued Miller along with the footage. “I’m thinking maybe we’ll get double technicals. Maybe if I get thrown out, he gets thrown out.”
Miller then expressed incredulity at the fact that he was ejected from the game while Jordan was able to finish it out. “The next day, I got a one-game suspension and he got three games,” explained Miller.
Elsewhere in the podcast episode, Miller revealed that he wished that he could have played more games against Jordan. "One thing I wish or regret—I wish I would've had more than one series versus that dude," said Miller. "I'm not saying I would've won. We would've won? Probably not. But you're judged by those big wins. I won a few battles. Man, he always won the wars. He's got six of them."
"I just wish we'd have had more. I wish I could've gone against him more," Miller continued. "Just wanted that smoke. But man — I want to see — I got confident. I want to see how I am versus that dude. I do my thing too, you know? I want to see how I am versus that dude."
It’s clear that Miller respects Jordan’s craft when speaking about him now. Last year, he declared that MJ was his pick for the greatest player of all time. "To me, Michael Jordan is the greatest player. I will go to my grave with that,” said Miller. “I can understand that because they don’t know MJ how you and I know MJ. They know LeBron, that’s their era and I get it."
