The American designer showcased his upcoming collection as part of New York Fashion Week. Browne's previous runway shows were held in Paris.
Thom Browne has returned to the Big Apple.
Today, the Pennsylvania native will unveil his men’s and women’s spring 2022 collections as part of New York Fashion Week. Browne, who typically shows his collections in Paris, said he made the move out of concern of the pandemic as well as to support his long-time partner Andrew Bolton, the head curator of the Metropolitan Museum of Art’s Costume Institute.
“I decided to return to New York to support Andrew’s upcoming show at the Met,” Browne said back in April, referring to the In America: A Lexicon of Fashion exhibit. “I think it is so important that all American designers recognize the importance of Andrew’s vision. This celebration of American fashion will be such a great showcase of the true talent that exists here in America.”
Ahead of Saturday’s event, Brown told WWD he took a different approach for the upcoming season, as he's decided to place stronger emphasis on simplicity.
“I love big, dramatic pieces, but the work on these more simple-looking pieces, it’s the most special work I’ve done and people need to see there is this level happening in New York,” he told WWD. “There are so many interesting and talented people here and the world needs to see that again.”
