Virgil Abloh’s Off-White Sold to Bluestar Alliance by LVMH
Per LVMH, Bluestar is "the perfect partner" for continuing the Off-White legacy.
Bluestar Alliance LLC is the new owner of Off-White LLC, the company behind Virgil Abloh's Off-White.
"Virgil was a creative pioneer who had a profound impact on the global fashion industry and creative community,” Joey Gabbay, CEO of Bluestar Alliance, said Monday when announcing its purchase of Off-White from LVMH. “Acquiring Off-White represents a unique opportunity for Bluestar Alliance to honor and build upon the enduring legacy of Virgil Abloh. His visionary approach to fashion resonates deeply with our core values.”
Gabbay continued, “Abloh's ability to fuse street culture with high fashion has laid a powerful foundation that aligns with our vision of fostering innovation while embracing diversity, and the opportunity to provide strategic investment and build upon our global network of resources will allow for the continuation of the cultural and creative momentum that Virgil ignited, one that Bluestar Alliance is committed to carrying forward.”
In a statement to Complex, Virgil Abloh Securities noted that it had formally split from Off-White in 2022.
“Virgil Abloh Securities and Shannon Abloh officially parted ways with Off-White in 2022 and are no longer affiliated with the brand,” the company said in an email. “In honor of Virgil’s 44th birthday, we celebrate his legacy and will continue to live with grace and positivity. Virgil Abloh Securities will push forward the future of Virgil Abloh’s vision by spreading his ethos and essence globally, led by Shannon Abloh.”
As expected, terms of the deal have not been made public. In press notes, LVMH stated it was “proud of the legacy” Off-White has built over the years, adding that Bluestar is “the perfect partner” to ensure that legacy continues to grow.
The news comes on what would have marked Abloh’s 44th birthday.
Other brands in the larger Bluestar portfolio include Hurley, Scotch & Soda, English Laundry, Bebe, and more.
LVMH was reported to have bought a majority stake in Off-White back in July 2021. At the time, Abloh had been designing for the LVMH-owned Louis Vuitton for three years. Abloh, 41, died in November 2021 after a two-year battle with a rare type of cancer.
