Chinx’s Convicted Killer Sentenced to 23 Years in Prison
The rapper was gunned down in a drive-by shooting in 2015.
The individual behind the 2015 murder of rapper Chinx has finally been sentenced.
According to Fox 5 New York, Quincy Homere a.k.a “Q” or “Qwality,” who pled guilty to murdering the rapper, was sentenced to 23 years in prison at a court in Queens, New York on Monday.
"Quincy Homere was sentenced today to 23 years in prison for killing Lionel Pickens Jr., a successful rapper, husband and father who was mercilessly gunned down in 2015," said Queens District Attorney Melinda Katz in a statement, per Fox 5 NY.
"Homere fired numerous rounds into Pickens’ car while he was stopped at a red light in Briarwood and then fled, leaving the young man for dead. Nothing can undo what happened, but I hope today’s sentence brings some solace to Pickens’ loved ones as they continue to grieve."
Chinx’s widow, Janelli Caceres-Pickens, responded to the sentencing on her Instagram Stories, writing, “The murder case for Lionel ‘Chinx’ Pickens is closed - justice wasn’t served but at least someone was held responsible n it didn’t go unsolved.”
She continued, “I faced that coward and I spoke to him in court n let him know just how much he stole from us! I told him to his face he was a monster and deserved to spend his life in jail fighting for his! But fortunately for him, I am not the one in control of his fate!! God will handle him 🙏🏽.”
“This chapter is closed but the next one continues… Stay tune (sic) for his street naming as we work on that! 🤞🏽🙏🏽 #LongLiveChinx,” she added.
Chinx, a rising rapper at the time, was introduced to French Montana in 2009 and shortly after became affiliated with his Coke Boys crew. He gained notoriety for his mixtapes and collaborations and was gearing up to release his debut studio album, Welcome to JFK, shortly before his death.
Homere, then 32, along with then 26-year-old Jamal Hill from Long Island were arrested in 2017 in connection to Chinx’s murder two years prior. Shortly after they were detained, investigators believed that the motive behind the shooting was an alleged altercation between Homere and Chinx over a phone at Rikers Island in September 2009.
“We're not exactly sure what the fight was about, but our perpetrator Quincy probably got the worst of it and he wanted to get back at Chinx,” Lt. Richard Rudolph, Commanding Officer of the Queens South Homicide Squad told XXL in 2017.
“When he saw Chinx's career starting to blow, he took it real personal and figured that his [own] career was going south... It just festered inside of him.”
During another incident in 2015, Homere and Chinx supposedly got into a heated verbal altercation at the latter’s concert in Philadelphia. French Montana, Uncle Murda, and Neef Buck were also present and reportedly “blacklisted” Homere.
“Quincy's steaming since that concert... I think that's when he started to feel a fire inside of him to take his revenge out on Chinx,” Rudolph added.
Chinx was fatally wounded several weeks later following a performance at Red Wolf Lounge in Brooklyn, New York.
According to Billboard, Hill, Homere’s co-defendant, still has his case pending and is already incarcerated for an unrelated charge.
