Steph Curry denies that Katt Williams taught him how to play basketball.

In a new episode of Complex’s 360 With Speedy, the 37-year-old Golden State Warriors star debunked the lore that the actor and comedian played a role in developing his shooting skills.

“In a lot of ways, we have Katt Williams to thank for your shooting ability?” asked Speedy Morman near the three-minute mark, prompting Curry to laugh. “Isn't that the case?”

“Shout out to Katt Williams, I'm a big fan. I've actually never met him,” Curry responded.

“And it's interesting that you've never met somebody who's single-handedly taught you and showed you everything you know about shooting,” Morman quipped.

Curry then flatly denied the viral story, saying, “The power of storytelling, I'm not saying that everything he says is fabricated, but that specific story: 100% never happened. But the power of a storyteller to kind of wrap you in set the tone.”

“He had my family calling me, 'Yo, I didn't know,'” he continued. “I said, first off, I was an underrated like three star recruit. There ain't no way I'm getting paid to come somewhere to play in an All-Star game or like All-Star camp or whatever.”

“And I've never seen Katt, like, shoot. I know he plays golf now, so that's—I've seen that. I'd love to play golf with him at some point,” he added. “But yeah, uh, I won't be thanking Katt Williams in my in my retirement speech.”

Curry’s comments came in response to a claim Williams has been standing by and reiterated on a recent episode of the 7PM in Brooklyn podcast, where he said he influenced Curryto become the shooter he is today.

At the time, he repeated a story he originally told in 2024 on Good One: A Podcast, where he described meeting a young Curry at a charity basketball game before his NBA career and supposedly sharing a key philosophy: “There’s no such thing as I’m not open, I’m always open.”

According to Williams, this advice led to Curry’s signature confidence shooting from deep.

"Anybody that know me knows that I don't claim shit that I do," Williams said at the time. "That's not part of doing it. It's doing what it is, and letting that be it. But I am responsible for the greatest shooter in the NBA, without question."
