Big Sean Responds to Speculation Ye Was Responsible for Leaking His Album: ‘I Know He Wouldn't Do No Sh*t Like That’
The rapper's recent 'On the Radar' freestyle sparked speculation that he was beefing with his former protege Kanye West.
Big Sean is gearing up to release a new album, but his plans have been somewhat interrupted after his album was leaked by a fan of the artist formerly known as Kanye West.
Fans have speculated that Ye, who previously suggested signing Sean to Good Music was "the worst thing I've ever done," was responsible for the leak of an unfinished version of his new album, Better Me Than You. The theory that Ye was behind the sudden leak, which arrived before the album was announced, comes from Sean's On the Radar freestyle earlier this month, which some perceived to be a diss at Ye. While Sean has acknowledged the leak in a tweet, he's since denied that Ye had anything to do with it.
"I know he ain't do that shit. I love Ye. Without him, there would be no me," he said during an Instagram Live stream, per X user Gotham Hip Hop. "I been there since Graduation. I got to study, contribute, give energy to every project. 808s, Beautiful Twisted... I know he wouldn't do that, that's trash. So whoever did do that, just know it did fuck me up."
He then picked up his phone and continued to deny that Ye had anything to do with the leak, but with a huge smile on his face. "I know he ain't do," he laughed while showing off his diamond record in his home. "I love Good Music. Shit, they made more money off my music than I did. ... So, whoever started that rumor, y'all on some bullshit."
In the recent On the Radar freestyle, Sean raps that he "had to switch the home team 'cause they committed treason," and said that he's "got better things to do than find someone to beef with." DJ Hed, a close collaborator of Kendrick Lamar, clarified that it wasn't about K Dot and was "directed at a different Gemini."
Variety reports that a social media user who went by the name bigseandon811 took offense to the freestyle. "Since he wanna disrespect Ye so much, here’s the album," wrote the user, who claimed Ye told them to share the leak. "Fuck him and his whole team."
In response, Sean tweeted out a teaser for a new song with The Alchemist. "Might as well start droppin, before they leak it all, got damn," he wrote. "BIG SEAN x THE ALCHEMIST soon."
Shortly after, he shared a statement about the upcoming record, which arrives on Aug. 9.
