Nicki Minaj Praises Lana Del Rey's Ethel Cain Diss: 'I Don't Know What They Put in That Song'
Lana Del Rey teased a diss track aimed at Ethel Cain, who recently dropped her new album 'Willoughby Tucker, I'll Always Love You.'
Nicki Minaj has some thoughts on the brewing feud between singer-songwriters Lana Del Rey and Ethel Cain.
Lana Del Rey recently teased a diss track that directly name-drops Ethel Cain, who is fresh off the release of her new album Willoughby Tucker, I'll Always Love You, and it's getting a lot of attention from fans online. Among those paying attention is Nicki Minaj, who gave props to Lana Del Rey for the teaser of the diss.
"Ethel Cain hated my post," she sang during the stream, imitating the diss track preview. "Lemme tell you something, that one song just made me say, 'Oh no, I am going into Lana's discography and I am listening to every single song... I'm not kidding, what it did to me... It puts me back in a different time." She kept singing the opening line of the preview.
"Lana can say anything and it sounds so dope," she continued. "I’ve wanted to say [Ethel Cain hated my Instagram post] since the moment I heard it. I don’t know what they put in that song."
Del Rey recently teased the Jack Antonoff-produced diss track in a post shared on Instagram. She directly names Ethel Cain in the preview, which she captioned, "Track 13," which is assumedly either the title of the track or its placement on a future project.
"Ethel Cain hated my Instagram post / Think it's cute re-enacting my Chicago pose," she sings in the snippet, which also seemingly refers to Cain as "the most famous girl at the Waffle House." The latter part of the snippet about a "Chicago pose" appears to refer to Cain's involvement with producer and artist Jack Donoghue, who is a member of witch-house pioneers Salem.
Del Rey previously dated Donoghue and shared a photo with him outside the Cook County Department of Corrections in 2022, while Cain later shared a similar photo of her with Donoghue that she has since deleted. Following the Instagram post, Cain wrote on her Instagram Stories that Del Rey had blocked her.
Del Rey later expanded her reasons for taking shots at Cain in a comment on a Pop Base Instagram post.
"I didn’t know who Ethel was until a few years ago—when someone brought to my attention the disturbing and graphic side-by-side images she would often put up of me next to unflattering creatures and cartoon characters making constant comments about my weight, I was confused at what she was getting at," she wrote, per Billboard. "Then when I heard what she was saying behind closed doors from mutual friends and started inserting herself into my personal life I was definitely disturbed."
