Busta Rhymes Calls Ex-Assistant's Assault Allegations an 'Attempted Shake-Down'
News of the alleged assault first surfaced in January.
Busta Rhymes’ ex-assistant is reportedly planning to sue the rapper.
Per TMZ, Dashiel Gables has accused his former employer of assaulting him and will announce the lawsuit against Busta at a press conference in in Brooklyn on Thursday (Aug. 7).
In addition to assault, Gables is also suing for wage theft, emotional harm, and battery. Busta told the outlet that the claims are bogus.
"I have been made aware of the claims made by Dashiel Gables, and I completely and categorically deny these allegations,” the rapper said. “For a very brief period, Dashiel assisted me, but it did not work out. Apparently, Dashiel has decided to respond to being let go by manufacturing claims against me in an attempt to attack and damage my reputation."
Busta continued, "I look forward to proving these allegations false and am preparing a countersuit which I am confident will expose this for what it is—an attempted shake-down by a disgruntled former assistant. Ultimately, I am certain the truth will prevail."
News of the alleged assault first surfaced in January, when Busta turned himself into police several days after the alleged attack on the 50-year-old assistant. Law enforcement sources said the incident happened at a Brooklyn residence on Jan. 10, when Busta purportedly confronted his employee for being on the phone during work hours.
According to police, the argument intensified, and Busta is accused of punching Gables several times in the face. Busta then allegedly left the scene, which is when Gables called 911.
The “Touch It” rapper was subsequently hit with three criminal charges: misdemeanor assault in the 3rd degree, attempted assault, and harassment. However, Busta wasn't charged, per TMZ.
At the time, Gables told the New York Post that his attorneys advised him not to comment on the matter.
“Maybe later. Maybe in the future,” he said. “I can’t mess up my case, bro. It’s just not going to be worth it. An article in the paper as opposed to a $6 or 7 million dollar settlement? I’m not risking it, sorry.”
Busta has recently made headlines for his career moves. Last week, he received a star on the Hollywood Walk of Fame, appeared in The Naked Gun reboot alongside Liam Neeson, and is gearing up to release his new album, Vengeance.
