Glorilla Honored With Key to Memphis on 901 Day, Says the City ‘Made Me'
The rapper was given the prestigious honor in her hometown to celebrate her musical success and upcoming MTV Video Music Awards performance debut.
GloRilla frequently shows love to her hometown of Memphis, and to thank her, the Grind City has given the rapper a prestigious honor.
To kick off September, Memphis celebrated 901 Day Big Glo-style, awarding the “TGIF” artist with a Key to the City. Presenting GloRilla with the award during the ceremony on Sunday (September 1) was Mayor Paul Young while the rapper's family, friends and fans were also in attendance.
The honor arrives during a year when the 25-year-old has earned three back-to-back hits, including "Yeah Glo!" the Megan Thee Stallion-assisted "Wanna Be" and the aforementioned "TGIF." In addition, the songs have made GloRilla the first artist to simultaneously reach the top-ten of US Urban Radio since Nicki Minaj in 2015.
GloRilla was also an opening act on Megan's Hot Girl Summer Tour, which wrapped its North American leg last month, although a New York City performance is scheduled for September 26.
On social media, GloRilla shouted out her hometown, writing, "Memphis made me Frayser raised me I got da key to my cityyyyy ahhhhh Happy 901 day MEMPHIS!!!!!!"
On September 11, GloRilla will make her MTV Video Music Awards performance debut, as she's also nominated in three categories: Best Hip Hop ("Yeah Glo!"), Best Collaboration ("Wanna Be") and Push Performance of the Year ("Lick or Sum").
