Lil Wayne wanted the halftime slot for Super Bowl XIX before Kendrick Lamar was named as headliner over the weekend.

Hip-hop pundits have been in an uproar since Lamar was announced to perform at the 2025 Super Bowl, but it's possible that Lil Wayne is also disappointed, according to a clip that's gone viral since Sunday (Sept. 8).

Since the upcoming Super Bowl will be held at the Caesars Superdome in New Orleans on Sunday, Feb. 9, Weezy hoped to be called on as a halftime performer, which he told hosts YG and Stevie on the 4Hunnid podcast last February.

"I will not lie to you, I have not got a call," Wayne said around the Super Bowl halftime show decision around the 23-minute mark of the video below. "But we all praying, we keeping our fingers crossed. I'm working hard. I'm going to make sure this next album and everything I do is killer, so I'm going make it very hard for them to...I want to just make it hard for them not to highlight the boy."

Lil Wayne also thanked the hosts for mentioning his 30 years of work earlier in the conversation, adding that it would take more than "a little hot single" to convince the show's organizers.

But Kendrick Lamar might've already been in talks with Roc Nation for the performance slot at the time, and the show's announcement disappointed many Lil Wayne fans and collaborators alike.
