Country singer Conner Smith has been identified as the person behind the wheel of a truck that struck and killed an elderly woman in Nashville, Tennessee, on Sunday.

According to the Metropolitan Nashville Police Department, a preliminary investigation determined that Smith was the driver of a Chevrolet Silverado pickup truck that hit 77-year-old Dorothy Dobbins while inside a marked crosswalk around 7:30 p.m.

Dobbins was transported to a nearby hospital where she was pronounced dead.

The investigation reported Smith failed to yield the right of way to Dobbins.

“On June 8th, Mr. Smith was involved in a car accident that tragically claimed a life,” Smith’s attorney Worrick G. Robinson told Billboard in a statement. “His heart goes out to Ms. Dobbins’ family during this incredibly difficult time. Mr. Smith continued to cooperate fully with the ongoing investigation.”

Sources tell TMZ that Smith was not under the influence or distracted by his phone.

No charges have been filed.
